SG Grain
SG Grain Rolls contain only a relatively small amount of iron carbide in their microstructure but with a significant quantity of graphite which is present in a spheroidal form.
The structure of the matrix ranges from pearlite in the lower alloyed grades to acicular phases in the higher alloyed and heat treated grades. Hardness penetration is excellent so that SG Grain can be used for section rolls of all types.
Because of the spheroidal form of the graphite, the strength of the SG Grain is high and the rolls can be used in relatively high duty applications. Acicular grades particularly, combine high strength, toughness and wear resistance and have been used as an alternative to forged steel in a number of applications with a substantial improvement in performance.
